Two police officers killed in attack on police station in Izmir

Two police officers were killed and another injured in an armed attack at the Salih İşgören Police Station in the Balçova district of Izmir, authorities reported.
According to local sources, the attack was carried out by a 16-year-old suspect who opened fire with a rifle on the police station. The injured officer was immediately transported to Dokuz Eylül University Research and Application Hospital for treatment.
The assailant, identified as E.B., was taken into custody shortly after the attack. An official investigation into the incident has been launched, and authorities have stated that the public will be kept informed of any developments.
Izmir Mayor Cemil Tugay condemned the attack on social media, saying: “I condemn the treacherous attack carried out on the Salih İşgören Police Station in Balçova. I pray for God’s mercy on our police officers who were martyred and offer my condolences to their families and loved ones. We wish a speedy recovery to our injured officers. Our pain is immense; may God grant us strength.”
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya also shared his condolences via social media, providing details on the victims: “Following this heinous attack, our First Class Police Chief Inspector Muhsin Aydemir and Police Officer Hasan Akın were martyred. Police Officer Ömer Amilağ was seriously injured, while Police Officer Murat Dağlı sustained minor injuries. The suspect, a 16-year-old, has been apprehended. We pray for God’s mercy on our heroic martyrs and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
Authorities continue to investigate the motives behind the attack, while security measures in the Balçova district have been reinforced in response to the incident. (lLKHA)
