HÜDA PAR to host workshop on new constitution in Istanbul

HÜDA PAR’s Human Rights and Legal Affairs Directorate will hold a workshop titled “The Search for Social Consensus & A New Constitution” on September 13, 2025, at Eresin Hotels in Istanbul.
The event will bring together academics, lawyers, civil society representatives, and opinion leaders to discuss the need for a new, fair, and civil constitution in Türkiye.
Mahmut Şahin, a member of HÜDA PAR’s General Administrative Board, emphasized the urgency of replacing the current constitution, often referred to as the “coup constitution,” with one that reflects social consensus and prioritizes justice. “The need for a new, fair, and civil constitution is no longer just a political discourse but a social necessity,” Şahin stated. He highlighted that the workshop aims to foster dialogue among diverse societal groups to strengthen social peace, justice, and the rule of law.
The event is seen as a significant step toward Türkiye’s normalization process, advocating for an inclusive approach that addresses the demands of various segments of society. Şahin called on political parties and social actors to collaborate in drafting a constitution that secures Türkiye’s future. “Now is the time to shelve the coup constitution and draft a brand new constitution. Let us take on this historic responsibility together and build a new future,” he urged.
HÜDA PAR’s initiative is expected to make valuable contributions to Türkiye’s ongoing constitutional debate, promoting a platform for consensus and reform. (ILKHA)
