The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the intensifying conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, warning of the rising violence and its toll on both sides, particularly the Lebanese Armed Forces.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric confirmed that 45 Lebanese soldiers have lost their lives in attacks during the ongoing Israeli aggression on Lebanon.

Dujarric reiterated that the Lebanese military has declared its "non-involvement" in the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, as tensions continue to escalate in the region. The UN is closely monitoring the situation, with increasing fears that the conflict could spread further, destabilizing the already volatile area.

Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the UN’s special coordinator for Lebanon, arrived in Israel on Monday for high-level talks with Israeli officials. The primary focus of the discussions was the urgent need for a ceasefire and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war. The resolution calls for the Lebanese army to take control of southern Lebanon, an area that remains under the influence of Hezbollah.

The UN has also reported a staggering loss of life in Lebanon, with an average of 250 people killed each week throughout November. Since the onset of hostilities in October 2023, the death toll in Lebanon has exceeded 3,700, according to Lebanese authorities. The UN has expressed growing alarm over the humanitarian crisis and the urgency of finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The United Nations continues to call for an immediate halt to hostilities and the resumption of diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region and uphold international resolutions. (ILKHA)
