5.0-magnitude earthquake strikes Iran’s Khuzestan province
A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Sarand area in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province on Sunday morning, according to the University of Tehran’s Seismological Center.
The seismological center reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 12 kilometers beneath the surface. Iran’s official news agency IRNA cited the center as confirming the magnitude and location of the tremor.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries, or damage to infrastructure following the earthquake. Iranian authorities are expected to assess the affected area to determine whether the quake caused any significant impact.
Iran is among the world's most seismically active countries, as it sits on several major fault lines and frequently experiences earthquakes of varying magnitudes. Emergency response teams remain on alert as officials continue monitoring the situation. (ILKHA)
