6.2 magnitude earthquake strikes Chiapas, Mexico

A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck Mexico's southern state of Chiapas on Monday, according to data released by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).
The seismic event occurred at a significant depth of 269 kilometers beneath the Earth's surface.
Despite the quake’s considerable magnitude, local authorities and emergency services have not yet reported any casualties or damage. Residents in the region reportedly felt tremors, but there have been no major disruptions to infrastructure or daily life as of this report.
Mexican seismological and civil protection agencies continue to monitor the situation for potential aftershocks or hidden impacts in remote areas. Chiapas, located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, is known for frequent seismic activity due to the movement of tectonic plates in the region.
Authorities have urged the public to remain alert but reassured citizens that there is currently no threat of a tsunami or further geological risks. (ILKHA)
