Afghan, Uzbek foreign ministers discuss strengthening regional cooperation
Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi reaffirmed that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan places diplomacy, mutual respect, and non-interference at the center of its foreign policy.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Muttaqi made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, in which the two sides discussed the regional situation and the importance of constructive engagement.
During the exchange, both ministers underscored the need for dialogue and cooperation to promote peace, stability, and development across the region. Muttaqi expressed the Islamic Emirate’s readiness to further strengthen bilateral relations with Uzbekistan through mutual respect and practical cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and connectivity.
Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov welcomed Afghanistan’s constructive diplomatic approach and commended Kabul’s ongoing efforts to ensure peace and stability, describing regional peace as a “shared responsibility among all nations.”
Saidov also highlighted that economic cooperation, dialogue, and mutual trust are essential pillars for achieving sustainable development and long-term regional prosperity, particularly in Central Asia, where interconnected infrastructure and trade routes play a strategic role.
Both sides agreed to continue diplomatic consultations and explore opportunities to enhance cooperation in economic, cultural, and transit fields, reaffirming their mutual commitment to maintaining stability and good-neighborly relations. (ILKHA)
