Afghanistan’s FM Amir Khan Muttaqi visits New Delhi for talks with Indian officials

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has traveled to New Delhi to hold high-level talks with Indian officials, the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the Ministry, stated that during the visit, Muttaqi will meet with his Indian counterpart and other senior officials to discuss a range of issues, including the expansion of bilateral relations between Kabul and New Delhi.
“Following an official invitation and participation in the Moscow meeting, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan traveled to New Delhi on an official visit at India’s invitation,” Takal said.
Indian media, citing sources within the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that the visit will last five days, during which discussions are expected to cover multiple topics, including the recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, India’s ongoing humanitarian assistance to the country, development and infrastructure projects funded by India, upgrading diplomatic relations to the level of embassies, and the expansion of consular services between the two countries.
Over the past two decades, India has played a major role in Afghanistan’s reconstruction, implementing large-scale infrastructure projects and providing humanitarian support. Although official relations between the two countries decreased following the return of the Islamic Emirate, technical and diplomatic interactions have continued.
Analysts say Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit could mark the beginning of a new chapter in Afghanistan-India relations, particularly in economic, diplomatic, and infrastructure cooperation, signaling a potential strengthening of ties after years of limited formal engagement.
The visit is being closely watched in both capitals as a key step toward deepening cooperation and fostering stability in the region. (ILKHA)
