Araghchi: Iran and Oman to make final decision on Strait of Hormuz
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that Tehran will consult Gulf countries regarding issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, but said the final decision on the strategic waterway will be made jointly by Iran and Oman.
Speaking to a Lebanon-based television channel, Araghchi said Gulf states would be consulted on matters concerning the strait’s management, while stressing that Tehran and Muscat would have the final say.
“We will consult with the Gulf countries regarding the management of the strait, but the final decision will be made between Iran and Oman,” Araghchi said.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes, with a significant portion of global energy shipments passing through the waterway.
Araghchi also said he was present at a meeting in the office of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during an attack targeting Khamenei’s residence.
According to Araghchi, explosions occurred during the incident, but the section where they were present was not damaged.
Araghchi had previously stated that any final decision concerning the Strait of Hormuz would be taken together with Oman, which has long played a mediating role in regional affairs.
The remarks come amid continued regional attention on developments surrounding the strategic waterway and broader tensions in the region. (ILKHA)
