At least 16 killed as bus plunges into ravine in Colombia's Antioquia
At least 16 people were killed and more than 20 injured after a school bus carrying children and tourists lost control and fell into a ravine in the department of Antioquia, Colombia, on Sunday.
The tragic accident occurred on the road leading to the municipality of Segovia, as reported by the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo. Preliminary data suggests the bus, believed to be a tourist vehicle carrying schoolchildren, was carrying between 35 and 45 people when it plunged into the cliff.
The Governor of Antioquia department, Andrés Julián Rendón, confirmed the severity of the emergency, stating that "at the moment more than 10 dead and 20 injured have been reported."
"The entire hospital complex has been activated to provide assistance in this emergency situation," Governor Rendón wrote on social network X.
Rescue services were immediately dispatched to the scene and continue to work through the wreckage. Dozens of injured individuals were urgently transported to medical facilities in the nearby municipalities of Segovia and Remedios. (ILKHA)
