Car plows into Liverpool title celebration, 27 injured

A joyous celebration of Liverpool’s Premier League title win turned tragic Monday evening when a car crashed into a crowded street, injuring at least 27 people, including four children.
The incident occurred shortly after Liverpool’s victory parade ended, with thousands of fans gathered in the rain-soaked streets. A dark-colored vehicle drove into the crowd, striking multiple people before being stopped. A 53-year-old white British man was arrested at the scene.
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims described the incident as isolated, stating: “We are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it.” Two adults and one child remain in serious condition, while 20 others received on-site treatment. Emergency services set up a large blue medical tent to aid the injured.
Nick Searle, Chief Fire Officer of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that four people, including a child, were trapped underneath the vehicle and had to be rescued.
The horrifying scene unfolded in the midst of what had been a jubilant occasion. Despite torrential rain, tens of thousands of Liverpool supporters had turned out to mark their team’s long-awaited league triumph.
Images circulating on social media showed angry fans swarming the vehicle after it came to a stop. Some smashed its rear windows before police managed to secure the area.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer released a statement praising first responders: “The remarkable bravery shown by the police and other emergency services is commendable. They are supporting and caring for those injured in these terrible events. The whole country stands with Liverpool.”
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash. The name of the suspect has not been released. (ILKHA)
