China reaffirms support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear rights
China has reiterated its support for Iran’s legitimate right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes during a phone conversation between the two countries’ foreign ministers, emphasizing dialogue and cooperation to preserve regional stability.
According to a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed Tehran’s nuclear program with his Iranian counterpart Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, exchanging views on bilateral relations and international developments.
Wang underlined that China respects and supports Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear development, stressing the need for all relevant parties to maintain dialogue and communication to avoid escalation.
In the conversation, Araghchi thanked Beijing for its “responsible and principled stance” at the UN Security Council in rejecting the illegal ‘snapback’ mechanism advocated by the United States and some Western countries. He added that constructive cooperation among Iran, China, and Russia within the UN framework “is of great importance and has been supported by 121 member states of the Non-Aligned Movement.”
Touching on the situation in West Asia, Araghchi condemned the Israeli regime’s destabilizing actions, calling on the international community to “confront the regime’s war-driven and repressive policies and prevent further escalation in the region.”
For his part, Wang Yi highlighted the strategic significance of Tehran–Beijing relations, calling for continued coordination within the United Nations and other multilateral platforms. He praised Iran’s adherence to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), asserting that Tehran’s nuclear rights “must be respected and safeguarded.”
Both sides referred to the productive meeting between the two presidents in September, reaffirming their commitment to advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations through enhanced high-level dialogue and cooperation mechanisms. (ILKHA)
