Türkiye’s Diyanet Foundation has pledged to distribute 2,000 food packages to destitute families in Afghanistan during the holy month of Ramadan, as part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to support vulnerable populations.
The initiative was announced following a coordination meeting between Sheikh Shahabuddin Delawar, Acting General Director of the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), and Dr. Emrah Kandemir, an advisor to the Diyanet Foundation, held at the ARCS central office in Kabul.
The meeting underscored the critical role of this aid in addressing the urgent needs of Afghan families during Ramadan, a month known for its emphasis on charity, reflection, and community support. Sheikh Delawar described the provision of the food packages as a "vital step" in alleviating the hardships faced by impoverished families, particularly during this sacred time.
Of the 2,000 food packages, 1,500 will be distributed in Kabul province, while the remaining 500 will be sent to Herat province, ensuring that assistance reaches those most in need across different regions. The targeted distribution aims to provide essential support to families struggling with food insecurity, a persistent challenge in Afghanistan amid ongoing economic and humanitarian difficulties.
In addition to the food aid, Dr. Kandemir expressed the Diyanet Foundation’s commitment to further collaboration with the Afghan Red Crescent. As part of this partnership, the foundation promised to provide 200 sets of clothing for orphans in time for the Eid holidays, offering additional support to vulnerable children during a time of celebration.
The Diyanet Foundation, affiliated with Türkiye’s Directorate of Religious Affairs, has been actively involved in humanitarian initiatives worldwide, with a focus on supporting communities in need during religious and cultural milestones. This latest effort reflects Türkiye’s broader commitment to assisting Afghanistan, a country facing significant challenges due to years of conflict, economic instability, and natural disasters.
The Afghan Red Crescent Society, a key partner in the distribution of this aid, plays a crucial role in coordinating humanitarian assistance across the country. The collaboration between the ARCS and the Diyanet Foundation highlights the importance of international partnerships in addressing Afghanistan’s pressing humanitarian needs.
As Ramadan approaches, this initiative is expected to bring relief and hope to thousands of Afghan families, reinforcing the spirit of solidarity and compassion that defines the holy month. Further details on the distribution timeline and additional support measures are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. (ILKHA)
