Three drones targeted a US occupation military base in Al Tanf in Syria but no American troops were injured, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Friday.
“This morning, three one-way attack drones attacked the At Tanf Garrison in Syria. Two of the drones were shot down by Coalition Forces while one struck the compound, injuring two members of the Syrian Free Army partner force who received medical treatment. No US forces were injured,” CENTCOM said.
"Attacks of this kind are unacceptable - they place our troops and our partners at risk and jeopardize the fight against ISIS," said Joe Buccino CENTCOM spokesperson.
Al-Tanf is a United States military base within territory controlled by the Syrian opposition in Homs Governorate, Syria.
It is located 24 km (15 mi) west of the al-Tanf border crossing in the Syrian Desert. The surrounding deconfliction zone is located along the Iraq and Jordan–Syria border.
The garrison is located along a critical road known as the M2 Baghdad–Damascus Highway.
Syrian government deems the U.S. military presence in al-Tanf illegal and considers the presence of US troops on its territory as an aggression and demands immediate and unconditional withdrawal of foreign forces from its territory. (ILKHA)
