Eight civilians killed in Israeli strike on funeral gathering at Nuseirat refugee camp
At least eight Palestinians were killed and 20 others injured on Friday evening after Israeli occupation forces carried out an airstrike targeting a gathering of civilians in the Al-Balata Market area of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
According to Palestinian medical sources, the strike hit Palestinians who had gathered to participate in the funeral procession of a Palestinian killed in an earlier Israeli attack, turning a moment of mourning into another scene of bloodshed.
Medical officials said several of the wounded sustained serious injuries, with casualties rushed to nearby hospitals already overwhelmed by months of continuous Israeli bombardment and severe shortages of medical supplies.
Witnesses described scenes of panic and devastation as the missile struck the crowded area, leaving bodies scattered across the market and mourners scrambling to rescue the wounded amid the destruction.
The latest attack came as Israeli military operations continued across the besieged enclave. Health sources reported that the bodies of 14 Palestinians killed in separate Israeli attacks had been brought to hospitals throughout the Gaza Strip since dawn on Friday, alongside 37 injured civilians receiving treatment for wounds of varying severity.
The strike on the funeral procession adds to a growing list of incidents in which civilians have been targeted while seeking shelter, collecting humanitarian aid, or attending funerals for loved ones killed in previous attacks.
Palestinian officials and human rights organizations have repeatedly warned that Israeli attacks on densely populated civilian areas have caused catastrophic humanitarian consequences, with refugee camps, residential neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, and displacement shelters coming under repeated bombardment.
The ongoing Israeli offensive has devastated much of the Gaza Strip, displacing the overwhelming majority of the population and leaving hundreds of thousands facing acute shortages of food, clean water, medicine, and shelter.
International humanitarian organizations have continued to call for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilians, warning that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels as Israeli genocidal campaign continue and essential infrastructure remains in ruins. (ILKHA)
