Explosion on Russian railway kills two national guard officers

An explosion on railway tracks in Russia’s Oryol Oblast on Sturday killed two Russian National Guard (Rosgvardia) officers and left another in critical condition, regional Governor Andrey Klychkov reported.
According to Klychkov, explosive devices were discovered during an inspection of the tracks, and one of the devices detonated, resulting in the fatalities and serious injury. Alexander Khinshtein, acting governor of neighboring Kursk Oblast, confirmed that the victims were members of the National Guard.
No passengers were harmed in the blast, but the explosion caused delays to at least ten trains along the Maloarkhangelsk-Glazunovka section of the railway, including the No. 726 Kursk-Moscow service, according to Moscow Railways.
Governor Klychkov stated that the situation is “under control” and that authorities are searching for those responsible for planting the explosives.
Russian authorities have attributed the incident to sabotage and launched a manhunt for those responsible for planting the explosives. Governor Andrei Klychkov of Oryol Oblast said the situation is “under control” and that authorities are actively searching for the perpetrators. Further details regarding the explosion have not been provided.
Ukrainian forces and pro-Ukrainian partisan groups have repeatedly targeted Russian railway and energy infrastructure through sabotage and drone strikes aimed at disrupting military logistics, including fuel, ammunition, and personnel transport.
Earlier incidents include an attack on railway infrastructure in Tver on August 28, when explosives were reportedly planted under fuel railway tanks, according to sources in Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR).
The incident in Oryol Oblast underscores ongoing tensions and the continued targeting of Russian logistical networks amid the broader conflict. (ILKHA)
