Gaza: Death toll rises to 70,117 as Israel’s genocidal war continues
The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza announced on Wednesday that the number of martyrs killed in Israel’s ongoing genocidal assault on the Gaza Strip has risen to 70,117, marking one of the darkest chapters in the long-suffering enclave’s history.
The ministry also confirmed that the number of wounded has climbed to 170,999, as Israel’s attacks—despite repeated international appeals—continue to inflict staggering human loss and devastation on the civilian population.
In its daily update, the ministry reported that Gaza’s hospitals received the bodies of five additional civilians along with 13 wounded people in the past 48 hours. Medical officials warn that the real numbers could be even higher, as many victims remain trapped under rubble or in areas unreachable due to the destruction of roads and ongoing Israeli violations.
Heavy Casualties Despite Ceasefire Agreement
Although a ceasefire agreement formally took effect on October 10, 2025, Israel’s continued breaches have resulted in further loss of life. Since the agreement began, at least 360 Palestinians have been killed, 922 injured, and the bodies of 617 martyrs have been recovered from various parts of the Gaza Strip.
Human rights organizations say the continuous targeting of civilians, residential buildings, and public infrastructure reflects a deliberate policy aimed at making Gaza unlivable. International agencies have repeatedly described the situation as a humanitarian catastrophe, with the health sector on the verge of total collapse.
A Humanitarian Crisis Beyond Comprehension
The ministry stressed that Gaza’s medical system, crippled by bombardment and deprived of essential supplies due to Israel’s blockade, is unable to cope with the overwhelming number of casualties. Thousands of wounded Palestinians require urgent surgeries, long-term care, and rehabilitation—services that are now nearly impossible to provide.
Palestinian officials reiterated urgent calls for meaningful international intervention to stop the massacre, hold Israel accountable for war crimes, and ensure protection for the civilian population.
As the death toll continues to climb, Gaza’s tragedy stands as a stark testament to the consequences of unchecked aggression and the failure of the international community to enforce justice for the Palestinian people. (ILKHA)
