Gaza death toll surges past 57,000 as Israeli onslaught continues

At least 80 Palestinians have been killed and over 300 others wounded in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours as Israel continues its relentless military campaign, which Palestinian sources and human rights organizations have described as genocidal in nature.
According to Gaza’s health authorities, the total death toll from the Israeli onslaught that began in October 2023 has now reached a staggering 57,418 Palestinians, with more than 136,000 others injured. The majority of the casualties are women and children — the most vulnerable segments of the population — further highlighting the disproportionate impact of Israel’s bombardment on civilians.
The renewed wave of attacks, following the breakdown of a fragile two-month truce on March 18, has led to the deaths of 6,860 additional Palestinians and left more than 24,000 injured. The resumption of hostilities has intensified the already catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.
Emergency response teams continue to face insurmountable challenges, as Israeli occupation forces reportedly target ambulances and civil defense units, making it nearly impossible for rescuers to reach those trapped under the rubble or lying injured in the streets. Health authorities have warned that many victims remain unaccounted for due to these systematic obstructions.
Despite international outrage and mounting pressure, including multiple calls from the United Nations Security Council for an immediate ceasefire, and rulings from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) urging Israel to halt its actions and prevent genocide, the bombardment continues unabated.
Palestinian leaders and rights groups have accused Israel of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and using starvation, displacement, and mass destruction as tools of warfare. Humanitarian organizations warn that the situation in Gaza is rapidly deteriorating into one of the worst man-made disasters of the 21st century.
As the international community struggles to enforce accountability, the people of Gaza continue to endure an unrelenting campaign of violence, with no safe haven and limited access to basic necessities such as food, water, and medical care.
With every passing day, the call for global solidarity with the Palestinian people grows louder — urging not only an immediate ceasefire, but a just and lasting resolution that ensures freedom, dignity, and justice for all Palestinians. (ILKHA)
