Gaza faces growing humanitarian catastrophe as Rafah crossing remains blocked

The head of the Network of Civil Society Organizations in Gaza, Amjad Al-Shawwa, issued a stark warning today about the escalating risk of famine in the Gaza Strip, as the Israeli authorities continue to keep the Rafah crossing closed.
Al-Shawwa emphasized that hundreds of thousands of residents, including vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and children, are enduring severe malnutrition due to the ongoing blockade and restricted access to essential supplies.
“The situation is dire. Gaza urgently requires approximately 300,000 tents to provide shelter for displaced families,” Al-Shawwa said, highlighting the chronic shortage of humanitarian aid. He added that while the daily entry of aid trucks does not exceed 300, this is far below the 1,000 trucks necessary to meet the population’s basic needs and prevent further humanitarian collapse.
Civil society leaders have called on the international community to pressure Israel to lift the blockade and allow unrestricted humanitarian access, stressing that the lives of countless Palestinians are at immediate risk. (ILKHA)
