Gaza Health Ministry: Israel returns 45 more martyred bodies showing signs of brutal abuse

Palestinian health authorities in Gaza say Israel has returned another 45 bodies of Palestinians killed during the occupation’s ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip, bringing the total number of recovered martyrs to 270 since the handover of remains began.
Dr. Munir Al-Barsh, Director General of the Gaza Ministry of Health, condemned what he described as “horrific crimes” revealed in the condition of the bodies.
“These martyrs were brutally killed and mutilated,” Al-Barsh told reporters on Monday. “Faces were burned to hide their identities. Internal organs were savagely torn apart. These bodies speak — they tell the story of the homeland they loved and defended until their final breath.”
He questioned how the world can remain silent: “How can those who kill also desecrate what remains of the victim’s humanity? Where are those who claim to defend human rights and international law?”
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) received the latest batch of remains — the seventh group returned by Israeli authorities — before transferring them to Gaza’s medical teams and the families of the martyrs.
Al-Barsh accused Israel of attempting to erase the identities of Palestinians even after killing them. He said the condition of the bodies serves as evidence of widespread violations that demand urgent international accountability.
“These pure bodies stand as witnesses to global hypocrisy,” he said. “Civilizations that preach humanity are drowning in silence and complicity as these crimes continue.”
The Ministry of Health says that forensic specialists are facing immense challenges in identifying many of the martyrs due to the extreme mutilation and abuse visible on the remains.
In earlier remarks, Al-Barsh stated that some bodies returned to Gaza showed signs of organ removal, alleging that Israeli forces had harvested organs from detained martyrs — an accusation Palestinian officials have raised multiple times throughout the conflict.
Human rights groups and international courts have been urged by Gaza’s health officials to intervene and investigate what Palestinians describe as systematic desecration of the dead. However, no international legal body has yet launched a formal inquiry.
Families of the martyrs say they are desperate for closure — and for the world to recognize the dignity of those who lost their lives.
“These bodies are not just remains,” one grieving relative said. “They are the voice of Palestine — demanding justice.” (ILKHA)
