A Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Monday evening to advance discussions on the implementation of all phases of the ongoing ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.
The delegation, led by senior Hamas leader Mohammed Darwish, includes prominent members of the group's leadership council and negotiating team. The visit aims to ensure progress in the ceasefire’s implementation and address potential challenges in the ongoing exchange of hostages and Palestinian prisoners.
Hamas announced that meetings with Egyptian officials would focus on facilitating the deal's success and resolving any obstacles. Additionally, the delegation plans to engage with Palestinian prisoners who were recently released as part of the first phase of the ceasefire, which commenced just over a week ago and is expected to last six weeks.
Hamas leader Basem Naim expressed optimism about Gaza's reconstruction efforts despite significant challenges. In media statements, Naim emphasized that the Palestinian resistance remains committed to the ceasefire agreement and would not allow any Israeli attempts to disrupt the accord. He also reaffirmed that the Palestinian resistance and people would reject any non-Palestinian administration of the Gaza Strip.
The discussions in Cairo mark a critical step in sustaining the fragile ceasefire and advancing efforts toward resolving the humanitarian and political crisis in the region. (ILKHA)
