Hamas says Israeli attack on Gaza family is part of ongoing genocide
The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has strongly condemned an Israeli airstrike that killed an entire family of five in Gaza City on Saturday, describing the attack as a "deliberate war crime" and part of Israel's ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.
In a statement issued following the attack, Hamas said the killing of civilians, including children, reflects what it described as the "true nature of the fascist Israeli occupation" and accused Israel of exploiting what it called "unjustified international silence" to continue its military campaign in Gaza despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement.
According to local reports, the Israeli airstrike targeted a residential home in the an-Nasr neighborhood of Gaza City, killing a husband, wife and their three children. Several other civilians were wounded in the attack, while the strike raised the total number of Palestinians killed in Gaza City on Saturday to 10.
Hamas said the attack constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and accused Israel of deliberately targeting civilian families. The movement called on the United States and international mediators overseeing the ceasefire agreement to intervene immediately to halt Israel's ongoing violations and to ensure compliance with the terms of the truce.
The movement also urged the international community, the United Nations and international human rights institutions to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities by taking concrete measures to hold Israeli leaders accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The latest strike comes amid reports of Israeli attacks across Gaza despite ongoing ceasefire efforts, raising renewed concerns over the safety of civilians and the humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave. Palestinian officials and rights organizations have repeatedly warned that continued attacks on residential neighborhoods are exacerbating an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis, leaving thousands of families displaced and vulnerable.
Calls have intensified for stronger international action to protect Palestinian civilians, enforce the ceasefire agreement and ensure accountability for attacks targeting civilian areas in Gaza. (ILKHA)
