Hamas urges mediators to ensure Israel honors ceasefire after captive release

The Hamas Movement has called on international mediators to ensure that Israel fulfills all its obligations under the recent ceasefire agreement following the release of Israeli captives by Palestinian resistance forces.
In a statement on Monday, Hamas confirmed that the al-Qassam Brigades and other resistance factions began releasing 20 Israeli captives as part of the first phase of the ceasefire plan brokered by international mediators, referred to as the "Trump plan" to end the war on Gaza.
Hamas hailed the release as a victory for the Palestinian resistance and the people of Gaza, highlighting the steadfastness and courage of the population under more than two years of Israeli aggression. “The liberation of our heroic prisoners, including those serving life and long-term sentences who have spent decades behind bars, is the result of the courage and steadfastness of our great people in the Gaza Strip and their valiant resistance,” the statement read.
The movement emphasized that Israel, under the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, failed to secure the release of its captives by force during the ongoing war, ultimately yielding to the conditions set by the resistance. Hamas underlined that the only path to returning captured soldiers is through a prisoner exchange and an end to Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza.
Hamas also stressed that every effort was made to preserve the lives of Israeli captives despite attempts by Israeli forces to target them, while Palestinian prisoners continue to suffer in Israeli jails under harsh conditions, including assault, torture, and killings.
The statement reaffirmed that the issue of prisoners remains a top national priority for the Palestinian people and the resistance. “Our Palestinian people will not rest until the last prisoner is freed from the neo-Nazis’ jails and until the occupation is ousted from our land and holy sites,” Hamas concluded.
The release of the captives marks a significant moment in the ongoing negotiations and reinforces Hamas’s stance that diplomacy and steadfast resistance are key to achieving justice for Palestinian prisoners and ending the occupation. (ILKHA)
