Heavy clashes erupt between Syrian forces and SDF/PKK/YPG in Aleppo

Intense clashes broke out in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo between the Syrian security forces and members of the SDF/PKK/YPG.
According to local sources, the clashes began after SDF/PKK/YPG militants targeted Syrian security positions in central Aleppo with heavy weapons.Reports indicated that one soldier was killed and three others were injured in the attacks.
The armed group reportedly launched assaults on Syrian security checkpoints in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, while also firing mortar shells near the Rahman Mosque in the Suriyan area.
Syrian media said security forces responded to the attacks and that fighting in the area continued intermittently.
Authorities increased security measures around the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyye districts.
State-run outlets reported that roads leading to the two neighborhoods were closed and mosques in the area called on residents to remain indoors amid the ongoing clashes.
Al Arabiya and Al Jazeera also reported heavy fighting in Aleppo, citing similar casualty figures.
According to The New Arab, at least one security officer and one civilian were killed during the confrontations, while several others were wounded.
Local observers, including the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, confirmed that both sides exchanged artillery and heavy machine-gun fire.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense stated that the army’s movements came “in response to SDF attacks targeting civilians and attempts to seize new villages,” stressing that Damascus “remains committed to the March 10 agreement and has no intention of launching new military operations.”
