The Martyr Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza has faced relentless bombardment by Israeli occupation forces (IOF), according to the hospital's director, Husam Abu Safiya.
In a statement issued Sunday evening, Abu Safiya described the situation as a “black day,” with continuous attacks threatening patients and hospital operations.
Abu Safiya reported that coordinated efforts to evacuate wounded patients and bring in supplies were thwarted when ambulances were bombed by Quadcopter drones. The attack injured four people, including two ambulance drivers, a hospital staff member, and a patient.
"When the ambulances left, the northern gate was targeted," Abu Safiya said. "There are martyrs near the gate whom we cannot transfer due to the continuous targeting of every moving object."
The hospital's four generators were severely damaged in targeted strikes, and repair efforts have been hindered by ongoing attacks. Abu Safiya warned that power outages, along with water and oxygen depletion, are imminent, posing life-threatening risks to the 50 injured patients currently in the hospital, including those in the intensive care unit who require constant support.
“Anyone who tries to repair anything is targeted,” Abu Safiya stated, emphasizing the dire need for uninterrupted electricity, water, and oxygen to prevent further casualties.
Abu Safiya said the hospital has been directly bombed without warning, creating an increasingly dangerous environment for medical staff and patients. "We are being killed daily," he lamented.
The northern Gaza Strip has been under a devastating Israeli invasion since October 5. More than 4,000 Palestinians have been killed or reported missing, 12,000 have been injured, and 2,000 detained. Vital sectors and infrastructure have been destroyed, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
The targeting of hospitals and ambulances highlights the growing difficulties faced by medical personnel in Gaza. With the ongoing attacks, the ability to provide essential medical care is increasingly under threat, raising urgent concerns about the welfare of the wounded and the broader humanitarian catastrophe in the besieged enclave.
