House Democrats urge Trump to push for Gaza ceasefire

Four Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives have called on President Donald Trump to intervene urgently to end the war in the Gaza Strip, warning of a deepening humanitarian catastrophe and escalating regional instability.
In a joint letter sent Friday, Representatives Gregory Meeks, Rosa DeLauro, Jim Himes, and Jamie Raskin expressed a “deep sense of urgency and moral responsibility,” urging the president to employ the full weight of American diplomacy to broker an immediate, just, and lasting resolution to the conflict.
“The ongoing war in Gaza has reached a point of profound humanitarian crisis, geopolitical instability, and perilous risk for all involved,” the lawmakers wrote. “We urge you to use the full weight of American diplomacy to bring about an immediate, just, and durable end to the conflict.”
The representatives asserted that Israel’s primary military objectives in Gaza “have long since been achieved,” cautioning that prolonging the war would further inflame tensions, worsen humanitarian suffering, and jeopardize the long-term security of both Israelis and Palestinians.
They called for the immediate reconvening of negotiations involving all key parties, including Israel, Palestinian leadership, regional stakeholders, the United States, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
The letter also emphasized that any sustainable resolution must include a permanent ceasefire as a core U.S. diplomatic priority. The lawmakers stressed that Gaza should be returned to Palestinian civilian administration without Hamas, and they firmly rejected any proposals for the forced displacement of Palestinians from the territory.
The appeal comes amid mounting international pressure on Washington to use its influence to halt the violence in Gaza and push for a political path forward. (ILKHA)
