A landslide in East Java's Blitar district has claimed the lives of two individuals, with one person still missing, according to Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency, BNPB.
The landslide struck Bumirejo village around 5 p.m. local time on Sunday. A clay cliff, over 50 meters high, collapsed suddenly, engulfing a local broiler chicken farm where the owner and three workers were present.
BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari reported that rescuers retrieved two bodies on Sunday evening. Efforts to locate the body of the farm owner are ongoing. One worker survived the incident, sustaining injuries.
The disaster has highlighted the vulnerabilities in the region, prompting local authorities to assess the stability of other similar locations to prevent future tragedies. Rescue operations continue as teams work to recover the missing individual and support the affected community. (ILKHA)
