HÜDA PAR proposes disaster zone status for fire-ravaged regions
HÜDA PAR (Free Cause Party) has submitted a proposal to the Grand National Assembly urging the government to declare the fire-stricken areas of Çınar (Diyarbakır) and Mazıdağı (Mardin) as disaster zones.
The proposal comes in response to the devastating fire on June 20th, which tragically claimed 15 lives and caused widespread damage. The fire, classified as a stubble and cover fire, resulted in injuries to over 60 people and the deaths or injuries of nearly 1,000 animals.
In Diyarbakır, the fire ravaged 7,900 decares of agricultural land, including 1,111 decares of wheat in the Köksalan, Bağacık, Yazçiçeği, and Ağaçsever neighborhoods. The inferno also destroyed one tractor, 14 irrigation facilities, and tragically claimed the lives of 924 ovine animals in Köksalan alone.
The fire's impact in Mardin was equally severe, burning 7,000 decares of agricultural land across the Yetkinler and Yücebağ neighborhoods and the Kelek hamlet of Mazıdağı district. Of the burned area, 4,000 decares were unharvested wheat fields. Farmers in Mardin also suffered losses of irrigation equipment.
The HÜDA PAR proposal emphasizes the need to address the significant losses incurred by residents in these regions. It calls for compensation for material and emotional damages, preventative measures to stop future disasters, restoration of biodiversity in the affected areas, and rebuilding trust between citizens and the state.
"Declaring Diyarbakır, Mardin, and surrounding areas as disaster zones is crucial to fulfilling our obligations as a social state. This will allow us to compensate citizens for their material and emotional losses, address their grievances, prevent similar disasters in the future, and ultimately rebuild trust in the state by facilitating a swift recovery and restoration of the environment,” Şahzade Demir, HÜDA PAR Secretary General and Gaziantep MP, stated in the proposal.
The proposal urges swift action to declare the affected areas as disaster zones, facilitating recovery efforts and providing essential support to the affected communities. By declaring these regions as disaster areas, the proposal seeks to uphold the principles of a social state and restore citizens' trust in the state.
HÜDA PAR's proposal underscores the urgency of addressing the aftermath of the devastating fire and providing necessary assistance to the impacted regions. (ILKHA)
