Iran, Afghanistan discuss strengthening legal and judicial cooperation
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, met with Mawlawi Shamsuddin Shariati, Head of the General Directorate of Supervision and Follow-up of Decrees and Orders of Afghanistan, to discuss expanding legal and judicial cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
During the meeting, held in Tehran, both officials exchanged views on issues related to the transfer and extradition of convicts and the protection of consular rights for imprisoned Iranian nationals in Afghanistan.
Gharibabadi underscored the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation to ensure justice and safeguard the rights of citizens of both nations, emphasizing that such collaboration reflects the deep historical and cultural ties between Iran and Afghanistan.
For his part, Mawlawi Shamsuddin Shariati highlighted the Afghan government’s willingness to strengthen coordination with Iranian authorities in judicial and consular matters, noting that mutual legal cooperation contributes to stability and the rule of law in the region.
Both sides agreed to continue consultations through their respective judicial and diplomatic channels to enhance existing agreements and mechanisms related to extradition and prisoner transfers. (ILKHA)
