Iran hopes to start seceiving Russian gas via Azerbaijan soon

Iran is set to start receiving Russian natural gas through Azerbaijan in the near future, according to Kazem Jalali, Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow.
The announcement comes as both countries finalize key agreements with Gazprom to facilitate energy deliveries.
Speaking to TASS, Ambassador Jalali said: “We hope this will happen soon. We are currently negotiating with Gazprom, and almost all issues have been resolved. But we need to find common ground on the price. Once that is settled, everything will be set in motion.”
Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev previously confirmed that the initial gas deliveries to Iran, using Azerbaijan’s existing infrastructure, could begin as early as 2025. The volume is expected to reach up to 1.8 billion cubic meters per year.
This development reflects growing energy cooperation between Iran and Russia, as Tehran seeks to diversify its gas supply sources while Russia expands its export routes. Analysts note that the new supply corridor via Azerbaijan could strengthen regional energy connectivity and provide Iran with a stable source of Russian natural gas.
The negotiations also underscore the strategic role of Gazprom in facilitating cross-border energy trade and resolving commercial terms between the two countries, with price agreements expected to be finalized shortly. (ILKHA)
