Iran launches missile barrage against Israeli military targets after ceasefire violations in Lebanon
The Islamic Republic of Iran launched multiple waves of missile strikes against key Israeli military positions on Sunday evening, responding to the ongoing Israeli violations of the Lebanon ceasefire despite repeated warnings from Tehran.
According to Iranian military sources, dozens of missiles were fired toward strategic military installations across the occupied Palestinian territories. Air raid sirens reportedly sounded in Haifa, the Galilee region, and central occupied territories as Iranian missiles penetrated the airspace and targeted sites linked to the Israeli military establishment.
Iranian media, citing informed military officials, reported that the missiles struck their intended targets with precision, describing the operation as a measured response to Israel's continued aggression against Lebanon and its attacks on southern Beirut.
The missile operation came hours after Israeli warplanes carried out fresh strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs, an area that has repeatedly been targeted despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to preserve the fragile ceasefire. The latest Israeli attacks killed and wounded several civilians, further inflaming regional tensions and drawing condemnation from across the Resistance Axis. Reports from international media also confirmed that Israeli strikes on Beirut threatened recently brokered ceasefire arrangements and heightened fears of a broader regional confrontation.
Iranian officials emphasized that the attack was carried out only after repeated Israeli breaches of ceasefire understandings and after diplomatic mediation efforts had failed to restrain Tel Aviv.
Tehran specifically pointed to Pakistan's recent diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and preserving the Lebanon ceasefire. Iranian officials argued that Israel's continued military operations directly undermined those efforts and jeopardized broader regional de-escalation initiatives. Recent diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Islamabad had focused on maintaining the Lebanon truce and preventing a wider conflict.
"The Zionist regime bears full responsibility for the consequences of its repeated violations and aggressive actions," an Iranian source said.
In a statement released following the operation, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the missile barrage as a warning to Israel and stressed that Tehran retains a wide range of options should aggression against Lebanon continue.
The IRGC said the operation demonstrated Iran's readiness to defend regional stability and support nations and movements facing Israeli military pressure. Officials warned that any further attacks on Lebanon could provoke a stronger and more extensive response from both Iran and the wider Resistance Axis.
Iranian leaders have repeatedly declared that no lasting ceasefire can be achieved while Israeli military operations continue inside Lebanese territory. In recent days, senior Iranian officials warned that attacks on Beirut would cross "red lines" and trigger retaliation.
The latest exchange marks one of the most serious escalations since the ceasefire framework announced earlier this month between Lebanon and Israel. While international mediators have attempted to stabilize the situation, ongoing Israeli military operations and continued cross-border hostilities have repeatedly threatened the agreement.
As tensions continue to rise, Iranian officials insist that responsibility for the current escalation lies with Israel's repeated violations and refusal to adhere fully to ceasefire commitments.
Observers warn that unless attacks on Lebanon cease immediately, the region could face a new phase of confrontation with far-reaching consequences for Middle Eastern security and stability. (ILKHA)
