On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, emphasized the prohibition of any form of violence against women in the country.
He stated that individuals found guilty of abusing women would be identified by investigative bodies and referred to judicial departments for punishment.
Mujahid conveyed a strong message, asserting that forced marriages, ill-treatment, and family oppression of women are unacceptable. He revealed that there are individuals currently in prison for crimes related to violence against women, and their cases are actively under investigation.
"All courts are mandated that wherever violence is discovered and seen, both the security forces and the forces of the judicial organ are responsible for taking measures, and whoever is subjected to violence, they should save her and refer the case to the courts as soon as possible," Mujahid stated.
Supreme Court officials in Afghanistan reported that, since the Islamic Emirate's takeover, more than 5,000 civil and legal cases have been addressed, with a particular focus on women's inheritance issues.
While acknowledging these efforts, women's rights activists argue for a more meaningful presence of women in various sectors. The recent unveiling of a woman who had been imprisoned in a room by her brothers for 25 years in Kabul highlighted the urgency of addressing women's rights and safety in the country. (ILKHA)
