Islamic Emirate launches poppy eradication campaign in Ghor province

Authorities in Afghanistan’s western Ghor province have launched a new campaign to eradicate poppy fields, aimed at combating the cultivation and trafficking of illicit drugs, an official confirmed on Sunday.
Maulvi Abdul Rahman Badri, spokesman for the Ghor Police Department, confirmed that the poppy eradication operation began today in Dolina district and will be expanded to other districts in the coming days. The campaign is expected to continue until all poppy fields across the province are completely destroyed.
Badri urged local residents to refrain from cultivating poppies and engaging in drug trafficking, warning that violators would face legal consequences.
The campaign comes as part of broader efforts by authorities to curb drug production in the region. Earlier, officials announced the successful destruction of several clandestine drug-processing facilities and the seizure of thousands of kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
The drive reflects ongoing efforts by the Islamic Emirate government to enforce its anti-drug policies and promote alternative livelihoods for farmers in Afghanistan’s rural provinces. (ILKHA)
