Israel launches new wave of airstrikes on southern Syria

Israeli warplanes launched a series of deadly airstrikes overnight on southern Syria, targeting military installations in the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa.
The attacks came shortly after reports—still unverified—of a single projectile being launched from western Daraa toward the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that multiple explosions rocked the region, with loud blasts shaking the cities of Quneitra and Daraa and reverberating across nearby towns including Izraa, Tel al-Mal, and Tel al-Sha'ar. Strategic sites, including the 175th Regiment base, were among those struck in what observers call a reckless and disproportionate Israeli escalation.
This fresh wave of aggression marks one of the most significant violations of Syrian sovereignty in recent weeks, reigniting tensions in an already fragile region that has witnessed months of relative calm. The Israeli occupation's air campaign has intensified in recent months, with at least 56 documented strikes on Syrian territory since January, according to the observatory—each one a stark violation of international law and the UN Charter.
Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strongly worded condemnation late Tuesday, denouncing the attack as a “blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.” The statement accused Israel of deliberately fueling regional instability and warned that these repeated provocations could spiral into broader conflict.
“We have not verified the origin of the reported fire toward the Israeli side,” the Syrian statement said, emphasizing that “there are parties who seek to destabilize the region for their own benefit.” It reaffirmed that Syria does not pose a threat to any side in the region and is committed to restoring order and disarming non-state actors in the south.
Earlier in the evening, Israeli reconnaissance drones were spotted circling the Yarmouk Basin area—a region known for historic militancy—raising suspicions of premeditated targeting. The attack comes as part of a pattern of Israeli assaults that continue under the pretext of self-defense, while in reality functioning as a campaign to erode Syria’s sovereignty and disrupt its post-war recovery.
This week’s strike also marks the first claimed projectile fire from southern Syria since the collapse of the previous government in December—a claim that remains uncorroborated. Many view Israel’s narrative as a thinly veiled justification for continued aggression and expansionist ambitions.
Syrian officials warned that such violations would only “deepen regional instability at a time when de-escalation is urgently needed.” They called on the international community to break its silence and hold the Israeli regime accountable for its repeated acts of war, which threaten not only Syria but the entire Middle East.
Tel Aviv’s military adventurism in Syria is being widely condemned as part of a broader campaign of occupation, destabilization, and domination. Syrian civil society, resistance movements, and allied nations continue to call for coordinated action against Israeli impunity. (ILKHA)
