Israeli forces conduct shelling, ground incursions in southern Syria
Israeli occupation forces carried out a series of ground incursions and artillery attacks across southern Syria on Thursday, advancing into multiple areas of the Quneitra and Daraa countrysides and establishing new military checkpoints, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported.
According to the agency, an Israeli patrol of three military vehicles moved toward the entrance of the western village of Samadaniyah, where they set up a checkpoint along the road connecting Rawadi and al-Ajraf. A second patrol, also composed of three vehicles, advanced along the al-Mantara Dam road in Quneitra as part of what Syrian officials described as ongoing Israeli provocations in the region.
Israeli artillery units meanwhile shelled Tal Ahmar in southern Quneitra, as well as the outskirts of Koya in the Yarmouk Basin region of western Daraa, firing multiple rounds into Syrian territory.
Earlier in the day, an Israeli patrol of four military vehicles advanced into southern Quneitra, establishing a checkpoint at the western Zubaida village junction on the road linking Ruweiha and Bir Ajam. Troops reportedly inspected civilians passing through the area.
Israeli forces also pushed into the eastern Samadaniyah and al-Ajraf villages in northern Quneitra on Thursday morning, marking yet another breach of Syrian territory.
The latest incursions come amid what Damascus describes as a persistent and escalating pattern of Israeli aggression, including airstrikes, ground raids, and the establishment of arbitrary checkpoints inside Syrian territory.
On December 3, Israeli airstrikes targeted the Damascus countryside, coinciding with further Israeli advances into Quneitra, where occupation forces set up yet another checkpoint.
Local sources reported that an Israeli drone launched three consecutive strikes on the road connecting Beit Jinn and Tell Bat al-Warda, though no civilian casualties were recorded.
Beit Jinn has become a frequent target of Israeli violations. On November 28, elite troops from the Israeli military’s 55th Paratroopers Brigade of the 98th Elite Division conducted a raid on the town, located just a few hundred meters from the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) Zone.
During the attempted arrest operation, local residents reportedly resisted and opened fire, forcing Israeli troops to withdraw. An Israeli Humvee used in the incursion was abandoned at the scene. Shortly afterward, the Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike to destroy the vehicle. (ILKHA)
