Israeli tank fire targeted six areas in southern Lebanon on Thursday, breaching the recently established ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, according to the Israeli military and Lebanese sources.
The Israeli military claimed that "suspects," some traveling in vehicles, had entered several areas in the southern border zone, prompting the strikes.
Hezbollah Member of Parliament Hassan Fadlallah criticized the attacks, accusing Israel of undermining the ceasefire and targeting civilians.
“The Israeli enemy is attacking those returning to the border villages,” Fadlallah said after a parliamentary session on Thursday. He added, “There are violations today by Israel, even in this form,” referring to the tank fire.
Lebanese officials and Hezbollah have accused Israel of escalating attacks on border towns in southern Lebanon to discourage residents from returning to their homes. Fadlallah described the strategy as an attempt to "scorch the area" and ensure depopulation despite the ceasefire agreement.
The ceasefire, brokered earlier this week, was intended to halt hostilities after months of border skirmishes between Israel and Hezbollah. Thursday’s incidents have raised concerns about the fragile truce and its prospects for holding amid ongoing tensions.
No immediate casualties were reported, and the situation remains volatile as residents and local authorities assess the aftermath of the violations. (ILKHA)
