Israeli occupation escalates aggression on southern Lebanon despite ceasefire

Southern Lebanon endured yet another wave of Israeli aggression early Sunday, as occupation warplanes and drones pounded multiple civilian and rural areas in open violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the ceasefire agreement of November 27, 2024.
According to local sources, the Israeli air raids concentrated heavily on the Nabatieh Governorate, targeting the highlands of Ali al-Taher and al-Dabsha, as well as the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Kfar Tibnit. The strikes were carried out in successive rounds, with occupation jets returning repeatedly to bomb the same locations, creating what residents described as “fire belts” around populated areas.
The mountainous region of Ali al-Taher came under particularly intense bombardment, further endangering civilians living in Nabatieh al-Fawqa and surrounding villages. Locals reported sleepless nights under the roar of warplanes and the constant hovering of surveillance and attack drones.
In a separate violation earlier Sunday morning, an Israeli drone targeted a residential home in the steadfast border town of Aita al-Shaab. While the full extent of the casualties and damage remains unclear, the strike once again demonstrated the occupation’s deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure.
This comes just two days after a Lebanese civilian was killed in Nabatieh when an Israeli drone fired on his car in the town of Sir al-Gharbiyeh. The Ministry of Health confirmed the martyrdom of the driver, underscoring the continued loss of innocent lives amid Israeli attacks.
Israeli strikes have expanded in scope in recent days. On Thursday, occupation forces carried out bombings on the outskirts of al-Qatrani, al-Jarmaq, and al-Mahmoudiyah in southern Lebanon. In Kfar Kila, an Israeli drone dropped four bombs, one of which struck a municipal vehicle and caused severe material damage.
Occupation forces stationed at the Roueissat al-Alam outpost also opened fire on the outskirts of Kfar Chouba, while another Israeli air raid struck Jabbour Heights in the Western Bekaa.
The ongoing attacks highlight Israel’s blatant disregard for the ceasefire announced in late November 2024, which was supposed to halt hostilities. Instead, the occupation has continued its policy of intimidation and escalation, targeting Lebanese civilians, infrastructure, and agricultural lands across the south and Bekaa regions.
Observers note that this intensification of strikes aims to pressure Lebanon and the Resistance, but history has shown that the people of South Lebanon remain steadfast in the face of Israeli aggression. (ILKHA)
