Lebanon under fire: Israeli forces invade Mays al-Jabal, kill families in drone attacks

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have once again intensified their illegal and deadly aggression against Lebanon, launching a series of incursions, airstrikes, and drone attacks that have killed civilians, razed infrastructure, and blatantly violated international law.
At dawn on Friday, IOF troops launched a ground incursion into the southern town of Mays al-Jabal, infiltrating up to two kilometers into Lebanese territory. Israeli forces stormed residential areas with armored all-terrain vehicles, reaching the main road of the town’s western neighborhood and surrounding square. In an act of clear provocation, they detonated two excavators being used to remove rubble from homes previously destroyed by Israeli air raids.
Simultaneously, Israeli artillery fired cluster munitions—banned under international conventions—toward Kfarkela, endangering civilian lives and defying legal prohibitions against the use of such weapons in populated areas.
The incursion into Mays al-Jabal was only the latest in a sustained and brutal campaign by "Israel" targeting multiple Lebanese towns and villages, far from any declared military objectives.
Late Thursday night, an Israeli drone struck a residential structure near the cemetery in Qabrikha, killing a Lebanese man and his wife and seriously injuring their 10-year-old daughter. There were no military installations in the area, underscoring the growing trend of indiscriminate targeting of civilians.
Earlier the same day, Israeli drone strikes martyred two civilians and injured two others in separate assaults on Kfour (Nabatieh) and Naqoura (Tyre).
These deadly attacks follow Tuesday’s indiscriminate airstrikes on Bouday, Shmestar, and Wadi Umm Ali in western Baalbek. In one of the most heinous war crimes of this offensive, Israeli warplanes bombed a civilian water drilling site in Wadi Faara (Bekaa), killing 12 people, including seven Syrian workers, and injuring many more.
Israel continues to illegally occupy five Lebanese border points, in direct violation of the ceasefire agreement. These acts of occupation have only deepened tensions and undermined regional stability.
According to the latest figures, 205 Lebanese civilians and resistance fighters have been martyred since the end of the November 27, 2024, ceasefire—yet the Islamic Resistance remains committed to the truce, exercising restraint despite continued provocations.
As Israeli aggression intensifies on the ground, Washington and Tel Aviv have escalated their pressure campaign on Lebanon, seeking to forcibly disarm the Islamic Resistance. In a recent interview with The National, U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack issued veiled threats, claiming that Lebanon faces collapse or foreign domination unless it complies with demands to strip the Resistance of its arms.
These coercive tactics come as Lebanon grapples with the fallout of repeated Israeli violations of sovereignty, war crimes against civilians, and direct attacks on infrastructure critical to survival and reconstruction.
The silence of the international community in the face of mounting Israeli war crimes is both deafening and dangerous. The use of cluster munitions, the targeting of civilians, and the ongoing occupation of Lebanese territory are gross violations of international humanitarian law.
It is imperative that international bodies, including the United Nations, International Criminal Court, and human rights organizations, take urgent action to hold Israel accountable, end the impunity, and protect Lebanon’s sovereignty and its people.
The Islamic Resistance and the people of Lebanon stand firm in the face of Israeli escalation—resilient, defiant, and determined to defend their land, their dignity, and their right to live free from occupation and terror. (ILKHA)
