The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8 has risen to 2,901, with 5,530 people injured, according to the Moroccan Interior Ministry.

As of today, 2,884 of the deceased victims have been laid to rest, the ministry said.

The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.3, was the deadliest in Morocco in over 60 years. It struck in the Al Haouz province, about 60 kilometers south of Marrakech. The region is known for its rugged mountain terrain and traditional villages.

The earthquake caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure. Many people have been displaced from their homes and are living in temporary shelters. The Moroccan government has launched a major relief effort to provide assistance to the affected population.

International aid agencies have also mobilized to help Morocco recover from the earthquake. The United States, the European Union, and several other countries have pledged financial and technical assistance. (ILKHA)
