More than 100 people, predominantly women and children, were killed Friday in two massacres carried out by the Israeli military against the al-Baba and Ahmad families in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza.
The attacks mark the latest atrocities in Israel’s ongoing military campaign, now in its 420th day, according to local sources.
The strikes occurred amid an intensifying humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza, where nearly two months of blockade have left residents without food, clean drinking water, or access to medical aid. Gaza's Civil Defense confirmed that entire families have been wiped out, with survivors often trapped under rubble due to a lack of rescue resources.
Over the past 50 days, Civil Defense officials reported approximately 10,000 injuries in northern Gaza alone. Ambulance and medical services have been rendered nearly nonexistent, compounding the challenges of rescue and recovery operations.
Despite the dire conditions, Israeli forces continue relentless bombardments. Artillery strikes on Beit Lahia were accompanied by targeted airstrikes in other areas, including the Abu Sharia region south of al-Sabra neighborhood in Gaza City.
The violence has spread beyond northern Gaza. In central Gaza, Israeli drones attacked areas near al-Maghazi refugee camp, leaving five dead and several injured. Airstrikes also targeted residential buildings and refugee camps in al-Nuseirat and the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in Gaza City, killing 10 and injuring many others.
Southern Gaza has not been spared. Residential buildings in Rafah were demolished, adding to the extensive destruction across the region.
In Beit Lahia, Israeli forces partially destroyed the Indonesian Hospital during a limited incursion before withdrawing. Similar strikes targeted residential buildings west of the Beit Lahia Project and an apartment on al-Shuhada Street in Gaza City, further displacing residents and compounding the humanitarian crisis.
The Gaza Ministry of Health reports that since October 7, 2023, over 44,360 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 105,070 injured. The escalating violence, combined with the ongoing blockade, has prompted widespread international condemnation and urgent calls for humanitarian intervention.
As Israeli forces continue air, land, and naval assaults, the humanitarian toll in Gaza grows, with no immediate end to the violence in sight. (ILKHA)
