The militaries of China and Russia conducted a joint strategic air patrol over the Sea of Japan on Friday, according to a statement from China's Ministry of National Defense.
This mission marked the ninth iteration of such joint air patrols, carried out under the framework of the two nations' annual military cooperation plan.
"The patrol is part of the scheduled annual cooperation plan between the Chinese and Russian armed forces," the ministry stated.
Further details on the specific aircraft involved or the scope of the operation were not disclosed. Both countries emphasized that these patrols are aimed at bolstering military coordination and are not directed against any third party.
The patrol comes amid increasing tensions in the Indo-Pacific region, where both nations have sought to enhance their military collaboration as part of a broader strategic partnership. (ILKHA)
