Over 1,000 Palestinian homes destroyed in West Bank refugee camps since January

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have destroyed more than 1,000 Palestinian homes in three refugee camps in the northern West Bank since the launch of a military campaign earlier this year, according to reports from local Palestinian committees.
The campaign, dubbed “Iron Wall” by Israeli authorities, began on January 21 in the city of Jenin and its adjacent refugee camp. It later expanded to include the Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps, with military operations continuing into their 159th, 152nd, and 140th days respectively.
In a statement released Saturday, the Media Committee in Jenin reported that over 600 homes in Jenin camp have been completely demolished, while the remainder have been severely damaged and rendered uninhabitable. The ongoing military campaign has also led to the deaths of 42 Palestinians and the forced displacement of approximately 22,000 residents.
The committee described widespread destruction, including the bulldozing and burning of homes, and said several houses had been converted into Israeli military posts. It also cited dozens of injuries and arrests amid the escalating violence.
Meanwhile, the Media Committee in Tulkarem revealed that IOF bulldozers have razed 400 homes and partially damaged 2,573 more in the Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps. The committee said that the Israeli military has announced plans to demolish an additional 106 buildings, affecting more than 250 housing units.
The campaign has also claimed the lives of 13 residents in Tulkarem and Nur Shams, including a child and two women—one of whom was pregnant. More than 25,000 individuals, comprising around 5,000 families, have been forcibly displaced and are now facing deteriorating humanitarian conditions, the committee added.
According to the report, the Israeli military has sealed off the entrances to the camps, effectively turning them into isolated zones and cutting off residents from access to aid and essential services.
Local and international human rights organizations have raised alarms over the scale of the destruction and the impact on civilian populations, calling for urgent humanitarian intervention and an end to the ongoing military operations. (ILKHA)
