Sudan army claims over 100 paramilitary fighters killed in West Darfur clashes

Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF) claim that more than 100 Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary fighters were killed in intense clashes in El Fasher, highlighting the ongoing conflict in West Darfur.
Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF) reported on Sunday that more than 100 RSF paramilitary fighters were killed during fierce clashes in the capital of West Darfur, El Fasher. According to the SAF’s 6th Infantry Division, "On Sunday morning, our forces successfully repelled the violent attack by militias on the city of El Fasher."
"Our forces fought bravely against the aggressors, causing heavy casualties in personnel and equipment. More than 100 militia fighters were killed and others injured." the statement added.SAF also noted that the RSF attacked with infantry, combat vehicles, and two tanks, supported by heavy weapons fire.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Saturday that 57 civilians were killed in drone attacks on a temporary shelter in El Fasher. However, the RSF denied responsibility for the bombing. RSF spokesperson Al-Fateh Kureishi stated, "We categorically reject the false claims circulating that civilians were killed as a result of any air or artillery attack on a shelter in El Fasher."
El Fasher has witnessed intense fighting since May 2024, with SAF and allied forces on one side and the RSF on the other. The conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has caused tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions, worsening the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
Analysts emphasize that while the SAF claims significant success against RSF forces, the ongoing conflict and civilian casualties underscore the urgent need for political solutions, humanitarian assistance, and long-term stabilization efforts in Darfur.(ILKHA)
