Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to visit Ukraine following Moscow talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to arrive in Ukraine today for a diplomatic visit following high-level meetings in Moscow, as Ankara continues its efforts to mediate regional tensions and reinforce bilateral ties.
The visit was confirmed by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi, who announced on social media platform X that Fidan will meet with Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during his time in Kyiv.
“We understand that Minister Fidan is arriving after his visit to Russia. We are confident that he will have things to share, things to inform us about,” said Tykhyi. “And once again, we will discuss both peace efforts and Türkiye’s role in these efforts, as well as our excellent bilateral cooperation.”
The visit comes amid renewed diplomatic activity aimed at exploring avenues toward peace between Ukraine and Russia, with Türkiye continuing to position itself as a mediator in the ongoing conflict.
Fidan recently completed a two-day visit to Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Vladimir Medinsky, Russia’s chief negotiator in previous Istanbul peace talks. According to Turkish sources, discussions with Russian officials centered on “initiatives aimed at ending the war between Ukraine and Russia” and developments since previous negotiations hosted by Türkiye.
While the Kremlin emphasized that bilateral Turkish-Russian relations would remain the core focus of the talks, the issue of Ukraine was also raised, signaling Ankara’s continued engagement on the crisis.
In addition to discussions on Ukraine, the upcoming talks in Kyiv are expected to cover a broader range of regional issues, including the situation in Syria, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
Türkiye has maintained a complex diplomatic balancing act throughout the Russia-Ukraine war, providing military aid to Ukraine—including Bayraktar drones—while also sustaining trade and dialogue with Moscow.
Fidan’s visit underscores Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to regional diplomacy and its unique role as a NATO member with strong ties to both Kyiv and Moscow. (ILKHA)
