Türkiye, Iran parliamentary speakers call for stronger bilateral ties in Geneva

Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf have emphasized the need to further strengthen relations between their two countries during talks on the sidelines of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva.
The two top parliamentarians met on Tuesday at the Palais des Nations, where they discussed issues of mutual interest and underlined the importance of expanding cooperation across multiple fields.
Kurtulmuş reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to developing close political, economic, and cultural ties with Iran, emphasizing that parliamentary diplomacy plays a vital role in deepening bilateral relations.
Qalibaf echoed the sentiment, noting the historic and strategic importance of Türkiye-Iran relations, and stressing that collaboration in various sectors could serve the interests of both nations.
The Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, organized by the Inter‑Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the United Nations, runs from July 29 to 31 in Geneva.
During the conference, Qalibaf addressed the plenary session, where he strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s “systematic massacre” of Palestinians in Gaza, calling for stronger international action to end the atrocities. (ILKHA)
