UN Commissioner Albanese calls for humanitarian fleet to Gaza amid escalating crisis

Francesca Albanese urges countries to mobilize a humanitarian fleet to Gaza, stressing that international inaction amid genocide is unacceptable.
United Nations High Commissioner for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, has called on the international community to urgently address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Albanese urged nations to mobilize fleets to guarantee the safe passage of humanitarian aid, emphasizing that a “real humanitarian convoy” is urgently needed to break the blockade. She warned, “This is what the people want and what humanity demands. If not during genocide, when?”
Albanese highlighted that the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza cannot continue unnoticed. She stressed that the international community’s silence is unacceptable and that immediate action is required to protect civilians facing extreme deprivation, destruction, and violence.
The UN Commissioner appealed directly to countries capable of deploying aid fleets, urging them to coordinate efforts to ensure supplies reach the population in Gaza safely. Albanese described the humanitarian fleet as an essential lifeline for millions of Palestinians living under blockade, where access to food, medicine, and basic services has been severely restricted.
Francesca Albanese further emphasized that sending a humanitarian convoy is not only a moral imperative but also a legal responsibility under international humanitarian law. She called on the global community to act decisively, warning that delays will result in further loss of life and suffering.
“The people of Gaza are enduring unprecedented suffering,” Albanese said. “Immediate, coordinated international action is essential to prevent further deaths and to uphold human dignity. The world cannot remain silent while civilians face genocide.”
Albanese’s statements have intensified calls from humanitarian organizations and human rights groups for immediate intervention, highlighting the urgent need for the international community to break the blockade and provide unimpeded aid to Gaza’s population.(ILKHA)
