UN confirms aid delivery to Gaza amid humanitarian crisis

The United Nations has confirmed that 808 aid trucks carrying food, fuel, and medical supplies entered Gaza, marking a significant effort to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians enduring Israel’s prolonged blockade.
Humanitarian workers are conducting rapid assessments in newly accessible areas to identify urgent needs, such as water, hygiene, sanitation, and healthcare. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that disease surveillance efforts are also being intensified to address public health concerns.
Before the ceasefire began on Sunday, Israeli forces severely restricted aid deliveries. As few as 13 trucks were allowed into Gaza on some days in January, leaving civilians without access to basic necessities and exacerbating the humanitarian disaster.
During the war, Israeli attacks on Palestinian police officers escorting aid convoys resulted in chaos. Criminal gangs exploited the situation by looting supplies and selling them at exorbitant prices, further worsening the plight of Gaza’s residents.
As aid operations resume, the UN and its partners emphasize the need for sustained efforts to provide relief and address the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza. The situation underscores the urgent necessity for coordinated international support to rebuild and stabilize the region. (ILKHA)
