The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food stated in a report to the UN General Assembly that residents of the Gaza Strip constitute 80% of the world’s starving population.
The Rapporteur also highlighted that there is no evidence or documentation in the warfare history showing a nation suffering from severe famine and hunger.
Moreover, the UN rapporteur Michael Fahri reminded that the act of condemning those living in the Gaza Strip to starvation began on the second day of the war.
According to Fahri, the limited humanitarian aid entering the Strip was primarily sent to the central and southern regions. At the same time, the occupying regime forced the population to move towards the northern areas.
Emphasizing that residents of the Gaza Strip account for 80% of the world’s starving population as of December 2023, the UN Rapporteur added: “There is no record in the history of warfare of a nation enduring such levels of famine and hunger. What has happened to the 2.3 million Palestinians in this area is unprecedented.” (ILKHA)
