US urges citizens to leave Iraq amid escalating regional tensions
The United States Embassy in Baghdad has urged American citizens in Iraq to leave the country immediately and warned against all travel to Iraq, citing ongoing regional developments and security concerns.
In a security alert issued on Wednesday, the embassy advised US citizens to avoid traveling to Iraq under any circumstances and called on those currently in the country to depart as soon as possible.
The embassy said the warning was prompted by the deteriorating security environment in the region, stressing that American citizens should exercise heightened caution and closely monitor local developments.
US officials warned that escalating tensions could significantly disrupt travel plans, noting that airspace restrictions, airport closures, or transportation disruptions could occur with little or no advance notice.
The advisory comes amid growing concerns over regional instability and the potential for further escalation across the Middle East.
The US Embassy also encouraged American citizens to remain prepared for rapidly changing security conditions and to follow official guidance regarding evacuation or departure options.
The latest warning reflects Washington's continued concerns about the security situation in Iraq and the broader region, where heightened tensions have raised fears of possible military confrontation.(ILKHA)
