The Director General called on leaders to avoid politicizing the virus, warning that it will lead to more deaths.
World Health Organization Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus repeated his regular appeals for global solidarity to fight the coronavirus pandemic, pleading for unity.
Responding to those criticisms, especially to the U.S President Donald Trump, the Director General listed the efforts the agency had taken to contain the virus, including the Solidarity Trial assembling more than 90 countries globally to find effective therapeutics.
“If you don’t want many more body bags than you refrain from politicizing it,” he said.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump criticized the World Health Organization, accusing it of being too cosy with China and slamming its global coronavirus advice.
“The W.H.O. really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look. Fortunately, I rejected their advice on keeping our borders open to China early on. Why did they give us such a faulty recommendation?,” he tweeted. (ILKHA)
