Yemen: 6 killed, 86 injured in Israeli attack on power plant, oil station

At least six civilians were killed and 86 others injured on Sunday after Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, targeting critical civilian infrastructure, according to the Ministry of Health and Environment.
The ministry reported that the assault struck the Hizyaz power plant and an oil company station on 60th Street, causing heavy damage to essential facilities that supply electricity and fuel to the city. The strikes also sparked fires and widespread destruction, leaving entire neighborhoods without power and fuel.
Civil defense and rescue teams continued operations late into the night, searching for missing individuals beneath the rubble and evacuating the wounded. Local authorities warned on Monday morning that the death toll may rise as rescue workers uncover more victims.
Hospitals in the capital are struggling to cope with the influx of casualties, many of whom sustained severe burns and shrapnel injuries. Medical staff have described the situation as critical, with shortages of medicine, supplies, and intensive care beds compounding the crisis.
Local leaders condemned the assault, calling it a deliberate attack on Yemen’s civilian infrastructure aimed at deepening the humanitarian suffering of the population. “Targeting power and fuel stations in a city already facing shortages is an act of collective punishment against the people of Yemen,” one official said.
Israel has not issued any official statement regarding the airstrike. The attack comes amid growing regional tensions and marks a dangerous escalation, raising fears of broader conflict that could worsen Yemen’s already dire humanitarian crisis.
The United Nations and international organizations have not yet formally commented, but human rights advocates are calling for an urgent investigation into what they describe as a clear violation of international law. (ILKHA)
